Michael Lohan is refusing to look at the topless photos of Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan's father refuses to look at nude photos of his daughter posing as Marilyn Monroe.

Michael Lohan is determined not to see the pictures of 21-year-old Lindsay in the new issue of New York magazine, but accepts it was "her decision" to agree to the shoot.

He said: "I'm not going to look at the photos - that's my daughter! But Lindsay is an adult, and she knows the direction she wants to take her career. It's her decision."

However, Michael did recognise that being asked to recreate Bert Stern's famous 'Last Sitting' photos of Marilyn was a huge honour for Lindsay.

He added to Us Weekly magazine: "The fact that the photographer Bert Stern who did Marilyn Monroe's pictures would ask Lindsay to re-create them - that's an amazing thing."

Michael also hopes Lindsay doesn't fully follow in Marilyn's footsteps, because the blonde iconic star died of a drugs overdose aged 36.

He said: "I pray there are no parallels to her and Marilyn Monroe's destiny."

Meanwhile, Lindsay's mother Dinah has lent her support to her daughter, saying the photos were "tastefully done".

She said: "It was very tastefully done. I respect the photographer as an artist, so I look at them artistically. For him to call Lindsay 46 years later and to say can you recreate these photos is an honour."

She added to People magazine: "I looked at it as art, and as Lindsay doing a character. So I don't look at them like it's Playboy - she was being a character. If you look at it that way, you can look at it as a mother."

Lindsay Lohan's mom gives nude pictures stamp of approval

American actress and pop singer Lindsay Lohan's nude pictures have received her manager-mom Dina's stamp of approval.

The pictures, which appear in the current issue of New York magazine, were a recreation of Marilyn Monroe's legendary 1962 photo shoot shot by Bert Stern, and Dina believes that it is an honour for Lohan to do the shoot.

"It was very tastefully done," People mag quoted Dina as saying about the photos.

"I respect the photographer as an artist, so I look at them artistically. For him to call Lindsay 46 years later and to say can you recreate these photos is an honour. I looked at it as art, and as Lindsay doing a character. So I don't look at them like it's Playboy; she was being a character. So if you look at it that way, you can look at it as a mother," she added.

Dina also added that had the photos been inappropriate, Lindsay's sister Ali would not have been allowed to visit the set.

"Trust me. I wouldn't have sent my 14-year-old to the set [if the shoot was in bad taste]. And obviously Lindsay wouldn't do anything with her sister there, that was risque," Dina told People.

The mother of the 21-year-old actress also revealed that Lindsay views the shoot as an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"Lindsay was very excited when she first got the phone call," said the 45-year-old mom.

"Of course we talked about how they would be done. Lindsay said, 'Mommy, I'm never going to get this opportunity to do it again.' She was very thankful she was asked," Dina said.

Lohan, who is an ardent Monroe fan, was very determined to go ahead with the shoot.

"She's always loved Marilyn," Dina said.

"For Christmas, my girlfriends even gave her a Marilyn cookie jar. I think there's a sadness that Lindsay feels for Marilyn. Lindsay really saw it as a gift back to someone," she added.

Lindsay Lohan poses nude as Marilyn Monroe

Lindsay Lohan and her fans overwhelmed New York magazine's Web site and readers complained of not being able to load its pages, which contained nude photos of star posing as Marilyn Monroe, relates InformationWeek report.

The photos resemble those taken of Monroe in her mid-30s. Lohan posed in a blond wig for the same photographer who shot the famous Monroe pictures. In the collection, Lohan sports translucent scarves, a veil, diamonds, dramatic eyeliner, freckles, and little else.

Bert Stern shot the photos at the Hotel Bel-Air, the site of his 1962 photo session with Monroe. The location, props, and photographer may be the same, but Lohan's, uh, attributes aren't quite the same. Lohan's measurements weren't included in the captions, but she cuts more of a V-shaped figure, rather than Monroe's legendary full-figured hourglass shape.

That didn't stop the photo spread, titled, "Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe in 'The Last Sitting,' " from burning up the tubes and servers at New York on Monday.

The magazine also dished out a little companion piece titled "La Internet Reacts to La Lohan." And, of course, there are reactions to the reaction piece.

Britney Spears' mathaer says she's ok in hospital

With Britney Spears whisked out of the public spotlight Thursday and committed to a hospital psychiatric ward, it's now up to a team of professional caregivers to reverse her seemingly endless downward spiral, according to The Associated Press.

Spears, accompanied by more than a dozen police officers, was taken to the UCLA Medical Center before dawn Thursday in what one officer would only say was an effort to "get help" for the troubled pop star.

It was her second 72-hour commitment in four weeks, though her previous stay lasted less than two days and was followed by more strange episodes that have accompanied her divorce with ex Kevin Federline and bruising child custody battle.

The law allows a person to be placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold for up to 72 hours if they are believed to be a danger to themselves or others. Spears' mother, Lynne Spears, was seen leaving the medical center's psychiatric hospital about 5:30 a.m. Asked if her daughter was all right, she replied, "Yeah."

Police deny claims Britney was drugged by her manager

Police today insisted they are not investigating claims Britney Spears was drugged by her former manager Sam Lutfi, despite reports robbery and homicide officers are on the case.

U.S. websites reported an investigation is "well underway" and has been assigned to Robbery Homicide because of the sensitive nature of the allegations.

But LAPD Media Relations representative Richard French dismissed the stories. He said: "There is no investigation into Sam allegedly medicating Britney." Officer Jason Lee also rubbished the claims on behalf of the media department, saying: "Who would you believe? The LAPD or internet reports."

Website TMZ.com reported sources say investigators have interviewed several witnesses about the drugs found in Britney's system when she was recently committed.

It said the investigation was temporarily held up by the death of an LAPD SWAT officer but is now "back on track".

Lutfi's spokesman Michael Sands slammed the "bogus stories".

Lutfi was accused of drugging Britney by her mum Lynne, who made the explosive allegation in the restraining order taken out against him.

She described a chaotic night at Britney's Hollywood Hills home where the popwreck was led around in a drugged and confused state by Lutfi.

Lynne's statement claimed Lutfi had "drugged Britney, he has cut Britney's home phone lines and removed her cell phone chargers". She added: "He claims to control everything - Britney's business manager, her attorneys and the security guards at the gate."
